Data Localisation

"There is no single or definition of data localisation. At first, the term was understood to refer to any measure that could affect the location of data. However, as discussions on data localisation have evolved, more targeted definitions have emerged. More recently, data localisation is used to refer to more explicit requirement that data be stored and/or processed within the domestic territory. In the context of trade agreements, discussions on data localisation tend to fall under the heading ‘location of computing facilities’, understood to be requirements to “use or locate computing facilities in [a] Party’s territory as a condition for conducting business in that territory”".
